This pinafore dress is making a huge comeback and just like dungarees, it's a huge hit. I'm glad this pattern is in a video format, it's better for a beginner to learn through watching than reading. Making the circle skirt isn't hard at all and the blogger makes the rest a breeze. You can still make this dress for fall in a thicker knit fabric.

I agree with you that this dress is a little young for me but it does show how to start drafting your own patterns and if you have ever wanted do do that then this is a good video. Have you ever made your own patterns? It can be very fun. If you make one let me know how it goes.
