Great idea, well-thought of tutorial, if you read the instructions, they are clear and concise. Might want to think about taking a map-reading course if you had trouble with instructions. I loved it. Going to try a bigger one with a roadmap inside.

Seems quite a few people have failed to notice that the ramin wrapper (or whatever wrapper you decide to use) is only a liner. You MUST use clear vinyl to make the purse. So as huntgoddess and some of the others have said, it is not exactly a recycling project. Technically it sort of is. It does use/reuse the wrapper, but the wrapper itself will NOT hold up (for any length of time, even long enough to sew it up. The main problem I have is that this is called a "cheap" recycling here. "No need to use spare change on buying a coin purse" I don't think it would be that cheap having to buy the vinyl! Now, if you happen to have an old clear vinyl table cloth or something of that sort that you are going to recycle (and maybe even a recycled zipper), then yes,,,, recycled & cheap. This is a cute idea to make a zippered purse & decorate with Ramen or candy, or whatever wrappers, but as others said, you could just make it from the vinyl. Or for that matter from fabric. Also, there were many comments on the directions post (no pattern) about it being easy to follow. I did not watch the video that it says has now been posted, and that might make it easy to follow, but.... I am an adept sewer/seamstress. I've made wedding dresses, and three piece suits, but I did NOT find the directions (for sewing in the zipper) easy to follow/understand. I personally know how to sew in the zipper, but I don't think if I didn't know how to sew, I would be able to figure it out from the pictures & written instructions. (Perhaps I'm just having a hard time concentrating tonight.)

vinyl is not expensive in the least... I've made many of these and had no problems following the instructions. the biggest tip is for some machines to add scotch tape to the presser foot so the vinyl doesn't stick.

I do not think this is really a "reusing" or "recycling" project, because --- as some others have said --- you don't even really need the Ramen wrapper there. The wrapper is covered on both sides with clear vinyl. You could just make a cute change purse from the clear vinyl alone. Follow the directions. Just leave out the Ramen wrapper. Then, you'd be able to see how much $$ you have in the change purse.

The idea was to recycle something. Why don't you get that? Simple enough idea.

I tried it but did not like it ...too filmsy and it broke. I went back to my ziplock bag.

If you look at the pattern, it is covered inside and out with vinyl. So it isn't the strength of the package you are depending on. The package just provides an amusing picture on the bag.

Sorry but I have to agree with siobhan021156 3449429, I have had Ramen wrappers not even survive the trip home. But I am tempted to use my 16 lb. cat food bags for grocery bags. They are made out of the same material as most of the bags sold today for that purpose. You do need to get rid of the pull strip edges though but you would want to anyway for looks alone.

Feedsaques makes these and sells them, the material used to make modern feed sacks is called polypropylene, and it can hold a lot of weight. It would be brutal on a normal sewing machine, though, if making more than a couple.

Tonya good luck with that apparently some people ran home and actually sewed a ramen wrapper into a purse. Unbelievable.

This is really cute , but I would want to line it . Just think how many wraps we could use to make coin purses!!

You can line them with fabric, I've done that with lots of mine. Or you can just have the clear vinyl interior.

I think this is a testimony to thrift...living on ramen and keeping the meager weekly earnings in a ramen wrapper pouch. I love it!

Cute, but the wrappers are so thin I don't think it's worth the effort sewing a zipper in it if it'll rip in 3 weeks. The Capri Sun or Kool Aid Jammers packets I made a coin purse out of last a LONG time. Years. in fact. Still have a few laying around.

You have to cover the wrapper in vinyl. That's the only way it will last for years.
