Denim Heart Pencil Cases

search

From the Blogger: "Do you love reusing old jeans? Create a fun heart pencil case. The applique hearts are made from pale denim. Dye the pale jeans in a shibori fashion to create beautiful patterns. Then embellish the designs with hand embroidery. You will be able to make a few from two pairs of jeans, perfect for gifts. The small zip bags can be used for many different items such as crochet hooks, paint brushes, and so on."

Very cute and the perfect gift for a teenage school girl. Our teenage son has asked me to make one for his girlfriend and our teenage daughter is wanting to make them for her stall at an upcoming school craft market. I particularly like the over stitching on the hearts - reminds me of the Japanese art of wabi sabi.

Great article on Shibori (an ancient Japanese indigo dying technique). Denim is the perfect complimentary media to use to illustrate this. The additional hand embroidery that outlines the Shibori designs elevates what appears to be a simple project into one of unique creativity. Definitely will give this project a try.

So cute! I love the hearts. I think it would be beautiful made into a clutch purse or bag. Instead of starting with light denim and dyeing it dark blue, has anyone tried starting with dark denim and using bleach to get white?

I like the pink hand embroidery. Any advice on what you thought worked best for the embroidery?
