Materials List

  • 1 ½ – 2 yards fabric
  • 1 ½” wide elastic
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine and thread
  • Amplify® RazorEdge™ Fabric Shears (8")
  • The Original Orange-handled Scissors™ (8")
  • Folding Ruler (6" x 24")

Instructions:

  1. Start by trimming your fabric panel to a perfect square using the 8” Amplify Fabric Shears.

  2. Using a tape measure, measure your waist and add 1” extra. Next, divide this measurement by 6.28. Round up the result to the nearest whole number and record this measurement.

  3. Fold the trimmed fabric into quarters, making sure that the right side of the fabric is towards the inside. Locate the folded corner with no raw edges. Place the end of your ruler at this corner point and mark a chalk line at the measurement you recorded in step 2. Pivot the ruler, continuing to mark a line at intervals, creating a curve for the waist line of your skirt. Decide how long you want your skirt to be and repeat this step for a second curve for the skirt's hemline.

  4. Use the 8” Amplify Shears to cut through all four layers of fabric at once, following the two curved lines you created. These shears are perfect for accurately cutting multiple layers of fabric.

  5. Cut a length of elastic using the Orange Handled Scissors. Sew the two ends of elastic together so that the loop fits comfortably around your waist. Use pins to mark four evenly spaced points around the elastic and around the waistline of the skirt. Match up the pins on the elastic with the pins on the skirt and pin the elastic to the skirt. The skirt will be bigger that the elastic loop.

  6. Sew the elastic and the skirt together. You'll need to stretch the elastic so that it lays flat against the fabric of your skirt as you sew.

  7. To hem the skirt, pin, then sew, bias tape to the bottom edge of the skirt. Turn it towards the inside and sew down. This completes the fun, fall skirt.
