BOLT by Girl Charlee Knit Fabrics are the softest fabrics to the touch and I love them. Perfect for the cooler months, these specially knitted, preshrunk, 95/5 combed cotton spandex fabrics are cozy, stretchy, and all around snuggly for any and all of your sewing projects.

If you're unfamiliar with sewing knits, the merits are abundant. Knit fabrics stretch more than wovens, which tends to make them more breathable. Additionally, knit fabrics are often softer; I'm not kidding when I say these BOLT fabrics are deliciously soft. Last, you can even use a regular woven sewing pattern with knit fabric. Be careful to avoid stretching the fabric as you sew; this can result in curvy seams and warped fit. Additionally, you'll want to check what stitches you use for seams: a straight stitch could pop when stretched too far, a zig-zag stitch will hold up, and a serger is ideal. Finally, you'll want to use ballpoint pins, rather than regular pins, because the curved tip of a ballpoint pin will push the knit fibers out of the way, whereas a regular pin will pierce the knits and damage the fabric.

While knit fabrics in general are wonderful to write about, the prints found in BOLT by Girl Charlee are too darling not to discuss. Featuring classic Girl Charlee prints in "coordinating color stories", these fabrics can be worked easily into a gorgeous quilt or any sort of patchwork project. Their collection Modern Reflection features beautiful prints in cool colors, perfect for cozy weather! You'll find a variety of prints like animals, geometrics, plaids, polka dots, damask, and a gorgeous pixelated rose print that I'm completely obsessed with. Projects made with this fabric make excellent gifts, especially for the holiday season. The softest quilts and wearables can be made with knit fabrics, and the prints are just darling for a niece or granddaughter.
