This guide on how to recycle shirts even makes use of vintage lace doilies you may have lying around, so you won't have to buy extra fabric. All you need to do is cut, sew, and go, and you'll have a DIY refashioned shirt your friends are guaranteed to envy.

Materials List

  • 6'' Fabric shears
  • T-shirt suitable for upcycling
  • Doily
  • Needle and thread

Instructions

  1. To begin, lay the t-shirt flat on your work surface and pin the doily to the shoulder in the desired position.

  2. Hand stitch the doily to the fabric. Use small stitches around the outside edge.

  3. Turn the t-shirt inside out and carefully cut away the excess t-shirt fabric inside the stitching with the 6'' fabric shears, careful not to cut the t-shirt material.

  4. Turn the t-shirt to the right side out.
