A floppy hat is perfect for sun protection when doing yard work or for on the beach. This one is nice in that it folds up flat for easy traveling yet still looks great when unfolded. The instructions and photos give clear step by step directions. A bright colorful fabric pattern makes this hat charming.

This is a great idea and it would make a lovely gift. I could see using a canvass fabric or even swimsuit fabric to make it a bit easier to dry quickly if it rained. I suppose you could scotch guard the fabric as well. Add a removable ribbon, now or flower for woe added fun! Great pattern and instructions!

Okay come on spring so I can wear this great looking sun hat to the beach or a vacation. I can see this all over the beach in different types and colors of fabric or out of rain fabric to keep from getting wet. This is a good tutorial and I think a beginner can handle this if you just read it a few times and pay attention to the directions. find more than one fabric you like then make one for a friend while you are making yours. Anyone make one?

I think the pattern needs to specify the width of the fabric. I bought a home decor fabric (44" wide) and it wasn't enough to get all the pieces. I got one brim and the hat pieces. I had to go back to the fabric store and buy another half yard to get the other piece for the brim. Had I bought 3/4 of a yard to start, I would have had enough.

Charlottea, it's easy to make it bigger. Just add a little onto the end of the brim piece - maybe half an inch, and make the hat seams smaller instead of the half inch seam. I had to make mine smaller, so I cut off half inch from the brim piece and made my hat seams 5/8 of an inch.
