Travel back in time to the beginning of our nation with this tutorial that teaches you How to Make a Hat for a Colonial Halloween Costume. Your little girl's imagination will soar as she dons the finishing touch of this DIY Halloween costume. This round-eared hat is the most important part of a creative colonial ensemble. You can make it out of an old pillowcase, so it won't cost you a fortune like a store-bought costume would. This historically accurate cap is great for homemade Halloween costumes, but it would also be perfect for a festive Thanksgiving pilgrim outfit.

Who knew Martha Washington was such a fashion plate, and with such a practical design. While this cap works well for costumes as shown, I made a comparable style cap of soft knit for my sister who is recovering from chemotherapy. A bright color updates the look and makes it a modern cap that brightens the day for those who are undergoing a difficult time Martha would be proud of another use for her classic cap.
