How to Upcycle a Dress to a Two Piece Set

"In this tutorial I show you how to transform a thrifted dress into a two piece crop top and skirt set. This project takes less than an hour to complete and results in a cute summer or spring outfit. This is a great project for a beginner or intermediate sewist/upcyclist. This project only took me seven steps and some basic sewing tools such as a sewing machine, needle, pins, iron, and scissors. Head over to my blog through the link below for a full tutorial with photos. I hope you enjoy this easy DIY sewing upcycle!"

  1. Separate the bodice from the skirt of the dress with your scissors.

  3. Cut four inches off the top of the skirt.

  4. Cut two identical rectangles out of the fabric you cut off the skirt (this is your front and back waistband).

  5. Sew together front and back waistband at the side seams.

  6. Fold the waistband in half and sew it to the top of the skirt.

  7. Iron everything and you're done!
