How To Make An Ultra Chic DIY Jumpsuit

From the Blogger: "This DIY jumpsuit is so comfortable and super simple to make yourself. No pattern needed!

To create this chic jumpsuit all you need to do is make the palazzo pants we made together and then sew them together with the DIY tube dress we made.

I just shortened the dress by measuring how long I wanted my dress/shirt to be before sewing it to the top of my pants."

Instructions

  1. First, we'll make the bottom portion of our jumpsuit, the palazzo pant. Don’t stress. It’s easier than you think. Start out by laying your pattern paper or contractors paper out on a table. Fold your baggy pants in half and lay on top.

  2. Use your pencil to trace the outline of your pants and then a grid ruler to mark 1/2″ out from your original, traced line. This will allow for seam allowances and create some extra give you make want as you’re putting your pants together. Be mindful of any pleats or gathers along the waistline of your baggy pants and be sure to pull them tight while you are tracing that part to get an accurate pattern.

  3. Now it’s time to cut out your new pants! Take your fabric and fold it in half before spreading it onto the table. Then, lay your new pattern over the fabric and line up your inside seam (the crotch seam and inside leg) with the edge of your pattern.

  4. Cut your pants out and when you open up your fabric. You will have a single leg.

  5. Repeat on the other side so that you have two funky-looking leg pattern pieces. Now, fold them back together and sew along the inside leg seam all the way down.

  6. Next, it’s time to line up your crotch seams. Lay your pants down on your table as shown below and pin the legs together at the curved edges.

  7. After they are sewn together, you can flip your pants inside out.

  8. The last step is to make them a little more polished and pretty. Put your pants on and use sewing pins to mark flattering pleats. Sew the pleats in place with a criss-cross stitch (so they still stretch when you put them on) before starting on the waistband.

  9. To create the waistband, take a 5″ strip of fabric and wrap it around your waist. Be sure it’s snug since it’s going to be the only thing holding your new pants up! Mark and sew the short ends of your strip together to create a band.

  10. The last and final step is to fold your waistband in half (hot dog style) and pin around the body of your pants. Sew into place using either a serger or a criss-cross stitch with your sewing machine and slide your pants on.

  11. Now we get to make the top! I've included a video tutorial in this portion of the tutorial to make it extra simple. Grab a yard of fabric and wrap it around you so you can see how wide you need to cut your fabric. Cut. Set aside the extra fabric for later.

  12. Next, wrap an elastic around you just above your chest and pin into place. Trim off any excess and sew together to create a circle.

  13. Now, lay your fabric flat on a table and fold in half. Pin into place and sew to create a tube.

  14. Pin the elastic to the top of your fabric and sew into place.

  15. Fold the elastic under so it's not visible from the "right side" and take at the sides.

  16. Now, take the scraps you set aside at the beginning of this project and cut them into two, long strips of fabric.

  17. Fold the strips in half and sew to the sides of your top as shown in the video to create "sleeves."

  18. To wear the sleeves, just tie the strips of fabric into a simple bow or knot around your arm.

  19. The last and final step is to sew the top of your jumpsuit to the top of your palazzo pants.

  20. Slip on and enjoy!
