Sometimes when you are tracing a pattern or just trying to hold patterns down or fabric down, pins just do not do the trick. If you need a way to hold your materials in place, consider making pattern weights. These come in handy when you are dealing with a lot of fabric or do not want damage delicate fabric like silks or laces with too many pin pricks. Every sewist needs their own set of fabric or pattern weights, so why not make your own? These Pattern Weights are the perfect sewing accessory to make for yourself.

I love these pattern weights. These will be perfect when I will be working with knits, and delicate fabrics instead of pins. I enjoyed reading the tutorial and I appreciate all of the clear photos. I would just recommend inserting a plastic bag first to hold the beans.

Let me just say this is the tip of the iceberg. I work at a place where we have many paper weights...and then people give us more for gifts. Since I am an avid sewer, I now use these to hold down pattern pieces while I am cutting fabric. Put small rubber grippers on the bottom of a weight or felt tabs. Enclose them by sewing them inside scraps of material, that makes them easy to lift and carry and they have great weight.

so clever---I may try sand or crushed walnut shells for fillers and line the fabric with muslin to prevent any escaping of thr filler

This is a good idea, but rather than the beans or rice use the little plastic pellets that you use for wieghting the bottom of a doll so she sits up.

These are absolutely what I was needing since I have a new grand baby girl and want to sew the premie clothes she needs; there's not that many out there...

love to try this but cannot open it... not the first on that i cannot open

made them this morning using old halloween and christmas scraps...filled with rice and have four done in a little over an hour and a half. :) LOVE em!

love this idea i will try to make this for me and my frends

The perfect gift idea for all my seamstress friends! You cannot ever have too many for yourself either. But I have to admit, for nostalgia, that I will probably still get out a can of mixed veggies!

Something so simple and necessary that can and will be quick and cute!! No more cans of corn and peas-hooray!! Thanks for the best idea of the quarter. These will make great personalized gifts for my sewing friends.

Love it! Thanks for sharing:)
