The foam really helps this to keep it's cute shape! As an alternative, fabric paints could be used for the cat face, or even large safety eyes or buttons for the eyes. Also, you could cut the nose, eyes and whiskers out of contrasting colored fabric and sew it on with a simple zigzag stitch. The whiskers could even be made with decorative cord as an alternative to embroidering it on. I have used fabric paints in the past and actually got some cute animal faces that the kids help create. Such a clever idea.. Love it!

This pattern is recommended for confident beginners but it seems fairly straight forward. The only obstacle I can see is sewing in a zipper, although there are plenty of tutorials on You Tube to cover this in detail. Theres a bit of embroidery involved as well, but the cat features to embroider are provided on the downloadable pattern so you dont have to rely on your drawing skills. I think its a great result and I can just imagine a little pre schooler proudly wearing this on the first day at school.
