Fantastic project idea! The ruffle is so feminine and so easy to make. I added a front yoke of iron-on stretch inter-facing to help support the weight of the ruffle -- so it doesn't pull down the front neckline. I made it shoulder to shoulder in the shape of the ruffle arrangement. I also made one for my toddler grand-daughter and put a smaller ruffle all around the front and back neckline, with some cute buttons nestled in the ruffle on the front.

the length of the 'ruffle' depends on the size of the sheet. The 'top' refers to the top hem edge, which is typically the wider hem. If you are using knit material from a store or your stash, usually 3 time the width of the edge you are attaching to is the appropriate length for a ruffle. If this appears too long or too full, feel free to adjust the length. Hope this helps. Great idea, by the way.

To Felica.....If you haven't figured it out yet (the ruffle length). I would make it at least 3 or 4 the length of the opening. The ruffle looks very full so you will need to start out with a long piece. Hope this helps you.

I really like this shirt and would love to make it for my daughter, what Im wondering is how long is the ruffle strip? I really dont want to take apart a sheet and you dont give the sheet size, I have quite a bit of left over material from another project that would work perfectly, I just need to know how long the strip is? Thank you

Who knew??? You are so smart to figure out you can ruffle this way. I'll be making this, but not for me...70 year old would look creepy with all the crapey. Thanks for the wonderful idea!
