This free sewing pattern is for an oversized bag that you can take to class, work, or a weekend getaway. Follow this sewing tutorial and you'll be a carpetbagger. This bag pattern can be used in a multitude of ways, so no matter what it is needed for, it is there and ready to use. Many bags are singularly purposed, so they cannot be utilized in any way other than the intended purpose. This bag can be used for school, as a carry on, for work, as a gym bag or even as an overnight bag; the options are endless. In addition, the colors on the bag, since they are black and white, are neutral and can be used at any time, and they will complement any outfit. This bag is a do-it-all bag, so it is an ideal bag to make because it will accommodate nearly every purpose needed.

I made a similar bag years ago and used oil cloth so the outside wa easy to keep clean as I used it to tote children's learning games that I made from school to school. I made straps out of the same fabric and measured from my shoulder to,where I wanted the bag to hang so I got a custom fit! And I place the straps on the bag where it felt the best. Mine was made for large objects and at the time I did a fold over top.

this project comes at a great time!! Our leather weekender bag of 20 years just fell apart. I'm going to make another one now that I have this pattern!!!

I made this recently. I love how large it is and even added a lining to it. HOWEVER, I do not like how the straps are lined up and how north, south the bottom of the bag is and the zipper is east, west. I have had lots of feedback that it's perfect but the straps could be done differently. I'm currently working with a client to do the straps differently. Will add photo when completed.

You're wrong danielle... it's actually a pretty cool bag.

do not go to this web page it it is crap

Great pattern. Terrible picture. The fabric pattern makes it very difficult to tell how it is constructed so I made it up with less busy fabric and took pics of it: http://tinyurl.com/carpetbaggerbag

thanks! the photos are great - you did a beautiful job
