Angel Hickman Peterson

Angel HickmanI am a stay at home mother of two beautiful girls. I'm married to one of the most understanding men on the planet, who has given me the most amazing gift: a room of my own to create in.

I was taught to sew and pattern draft by my mother. One of my favorite memories is spending part of a summer making rag dolls with her, our two sewing machines working side by side.

With a bachelor’s degree in Film Studies, my professional background is in film, television and ad production. While I love all things creative, (scrapbooking, photography, interior design) sewing is my creative comfort food. Being a slow sewer, I prefer to sew items for family and friends and share my patterns for others to enjoy.

I like anything to do with technology, if it involves computers and gadgets I’m interested. Pattern drafting and blogging became a full time hobby when I realized that I could meld the comfort of sewing with my love of computer technology and programs.

My designs tend to be on the classic side. I like clean lines with a tailored look - like all my favorite old movie stars from Hollywood’s golden era. Once in a while I like to make something whimsical, but I love a classic look.

My goal is to encourage others to dust off their machines and teach a new generation the joy of sewing and giving handmade gifts.

I love your patterns and videos. I am brand new to the sewing world. I just purchased a singer machine. I have a donation from a retailer, but they only gave me the bottom of the aprons with pockets. I would like to learn how to do the top so I can purchase canvas fabric to complete them for our art students. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Here is a new old craft for all and it's free of course. Instead of a mug rug or with a mug rug is the Lug a mug. You can knit it or crochet it or make from quilted scrap. make a round tube with bottem easiest is from quilted fabric, to fit your fav. cup and sew tube to a circle for bottem. Add a string or long handle. embroider "Lugg a Mug" .You are now part of the ECO movement as you don't need to use paper or plastic when you are out and about especially at groups you attend. Some like to knit a holder but I like to make those a bit larger and add a quilted liner just to make them more succure. Enjoy Marlene

I love your blog which has solved my problem for making clothes for my great-niece's two American Girl dolls I am a busy Surface Design Artist and also make Mixed Media Art for competitions and didn't want to disappoint Ellie Rose who expects Auntie Jo to make clothes for her dolls since I made doll clothes for her Grandma my sister My own creations take a lot of time since I design dye or paint fabric for them and they are very complicated and must be as perfect as I can make them in order to enter them into competitions and expect to win Your fleece clothes have solved my problem They are so easy to make and I have taken your advice and cut out more than one outfit at a time Since fleece doesn't unravel like the cotton or other fabrics I use I don't have to spend theRead More time hemming things and it has been a revelation to me Fleece isn't anything I have ever used before but here in Minnesota it is so easy to find and I have made my niece very happy and that makes me happy also I have even started to think about how I can use it in some of my Contemporary Quilts Thanks for the great blog which I discovered through All Free Sewing
