I guess I also learned in home ec, age 12 , I recieved the one I learned on by my Mom, loved it. It was a Singer oldy but a goodie, unfortunately it was lost in a house fire.

I was 13, started in Home Ec class.

I started sewing doll clothes by hand around 6 or 7 yo. My father bought a sewing machine from the thrift shop for $20 when I was in 7th grade so he and I could sew, and I have been sewing ever since.

I was about 4 years old. Learning to sew at my mothers knee. Making baby doll clothes.

My grandmother taught me to hand sew when I was about 6 or 7.

i was taught by my Mom and Grandmother at age 9 or 10, on my grandmothers old machine. still have it and use it.

Hard to believe that I Have Been Sewing Over 40 years. I was 8 maybe a bit younger my mom says , when she taught me to thread the machine and gave me swatches to practice straight lines and curves. It was not long before I made a patchwork pillow.

I was 12 in the 7th grade where I was taught to sew it was a class then you had a year of sewing and a year of cooking classes.

I started sewing in Home Economics at the age of 14. I wish they still taught that class.

I guess I was about 12 or 13 years old. Seems like I've always sewed some.

Both my mother and grandmother sewed and so I was about 10 when I sewed my first shift, there was no going back from that.

I started to sew when I was 12 years old. My first project was a dress for my mother. It turned out very good. I had a lady who lived in my building who was a seamstress, she was very helpful. Been sewing off and on since then.

I look forward to National Sewing Month each year! The first time I used a sewing machine was in 8th grade in Home Ec. My class learned how to make pajama pants!

I started sewing when i was 12. My mom had a old singer sewing machine she could get it treaded but didnt really know how to use it. But i taught myself by making simple doll clothes. Still love it!

My Grandmother taught me when I was about 5.

I started sewing at age 10 and have been seeing for the past 40 years. I've sewn everything from clothes and dolls to couch covers. I still love to sew but wish I had more time to do so.

I have been sewing since age 10. I made most of the kids clothes when they were young and now sewing for my granddaughter. I make doll clothes as well barbie, cabbage patch and the American doll now

I've been sewing since age 10, paused for a while, started back a few years ago sewing items for grand daughter, I'm 75 now and able to really enjoy sewing trying to teach grand daughter the basics, need a little help with interesting ideas find your site very helpful. Claudetta

Well I'm 42 now, and I'm still learning. I didn't touch a sewing machine until my 30's.

I had a small green, kid sewing machine. I was about 12 years old.

I watched my mother sew clothes for us until I was about 13 years old. Then she taught me how to make my first dress. Still sewing 60 years later.

I got my first chain-stitch Singer child's sewing machine when I was 7. I've been sewing ever since.

I was a late learner began sewing after retirement at age 59 so have only been at it for 7 year. Joining my local quilt guild has been wonderful. The ladies have taught me a lot we always have a good time. I also love to craft that includes sewing many things.

I started learning to sew at 13 years old in 9th grade Home Economics class. I went on to being a Home Economics teacher and have been sewing for 56 years.

Wow, Thank You! I learned to sew by watching my Mom. I'm not sure when I started to sew, but I was very young. I mostly would hand sew when I was younger. Later, my Mom gave me my own machine to keep me from hers!

I don't know how old I was when I started sewing- pretty young, though. I know I used to sew my own doll clothes when I was a kid!

I was maybe 5 or younger. My Grandmother taught me on her traedle machine. I made 4 patches.

I started sewing in 4-H when I was 10 years old- later was a 4-H leader for 10 years.

I started sewing when I was about 5 yrs. old. No one taught me, I just played around and taught myself. Once I reached High School I took Home Ec and I learned the "correct" way to make things.

My mother taught me. I was 14. Unfortunately I can't submit my entry because I live in Quebec.

I was around 14, and "forced" to take home ec in jr. high. Sewing is the only thing I still remember from that class!

Around 8 Both mom and Gramma were expert sewers and learned from them

Home Ec. in 7th and 8th grade and did I ever make a mess!

Around 5 years old with a sewing machine that was always accessible I began with potholders under Mother's supervision.

I took home ec in junior high. But they never got to sewing in my class. So I taught myself at 20, wjen expecting my 1st bany

I was in Home Economics in the 7th grade and sewed a skirt.

I started sewing in 5th or 6th grade in 4-H and then in 7th grade home ec... My cousin's Grandma Anna taught us to sew "petal pillows" by hand piecing what I now know in the quilting world as dresden plates!! )

The first thing I made was a skirt when I was 8 years old.

I started sewing at age 5 with my mother teaching me.

I started sewing when I was ten, 62 years ago. I evolved from making clothes to being a quilter.

I learned to sew in high school. That was back when they taught home ec in the 70s

I started to sew doll clothes when I was about 10 - made my first dress at 14. Made my own clothes for years but now into quilting. Currently have a Bernina that I have used for years!

I learned how to sew when I was about ten. My mother taught my sister and I on a treadle machine! Plenty of projects waiting to be made for the holidays!

I first started to sew when I was 11 years old but did not start quilting until a year ago at 58! Looking good forward to using this month to get all those UFO's finished that got put aside for summer company and travelling.

I am looking forward to all 4 weeks. Especially sewing for grandbaby and the christmas week! Bernina is the very best in machines, its what i learned on, on my mothers. There is no finer machine.
